Boys & Girls Welcome 2023

Due to popular demand, Azcui will welcome boys and girls to camp this summer! Boys & Girls will have the chance to learn from an energetic and experienced coaching staff on the beautiful Indiana University campus. In addition, campers will receive FIVE DAYS of instruction unlike virtually all Midwest college tennis camps that are five days

Camp Curricula

This curriculum is for beginning, intermediate and typical high school players. The emphasis will be grips, stroke correction, patterns, footwork and player development. Players will be separated by age and ability.The curriculum is to prepare players for tournament play. We will drill, play matches with campers and college players, and talk advanced strategy and the mental game.

The Coaches

Ramiro Azcui
Ramiro Azcui was name head coach of the Indiana women’s tennis team on Jan 5, 2017 after serving over 24 years as the associate head coach of the program. Since arriving in Bloomington In 1992, Azcui has helped lead the Hoosiers to five Big Ten titles and 16 NCAA Tournament appearances.

At Indiana, Azcui helped te Hoosier compile a 400-237 overall record during his tenure as associate head coach and an Impressive 165-92 mark in Big Ten play with players having earned All America honors. He has publicly acknowledged for his coaching, winning the Midwest Assistant coach of the Year Award in 1997, 1999 and 2004 and was also awarded the ITA National Assistant Coach of the Year in 2004

Off the court, Azcui has been instrumental in shaping a successful academic culture for IU women’s tennis program. Since his arrival to Indiana in 1992, Azcui has helped the program maintain a 100 percent graduation rate for all students who exhaust their eligibility. IU’s women’s tennis teams are regular winners of the Herbert Cup, given to the IU Athletics program with the highest GPA each semester since 2007-08. Indiana women’s tennis has earned the cup 12 times in that span. Prior to Indiana, Azcui served as head coach of both men’s and women’s tennis teams at Truman State. While there, Azcui compiled a three year record of 30-24 as the men’s and women’s programs. Azcui, took a program that was near the bottom of its conference and guided it to among the league’s best.

Facilities

The camp will use the ten Indiana University Outdoor Varsity Tennis Courts

Housing

Players will be housed at the Alpha Delta Pi sorority house located a short walk from the tennis complex. The air-conditioned house will provide the campers with a superior living environment compared to school dormitories. There will be more room, more privacy and better 24-hour supervision. Meals are served three times a day. The majority of the rooms are doubles, but some triples and quads are available Campers who request a specific roommate will be placed with that camper. Please be sure that both campers request each other when they register. Campers who do not request a roommate will be placed with someone close to their age. About 40% of the campers did not have a roommate request

Check In

All Players will register at the Alpha Delta PI sorority house between 3:00pm and 4:00pm (eastern) on Sunday June 18th
Camp will end on Friday June 23rd at 1pm

Daily Schedule

8am- breakfast
9am-Noon – Morning Workout, stretching, lecture, drills and conditioning
12:15pm Lunch and rest period
1:30pm-3:15pm – afternoon workout, stretching, drills, singles/doubles – Group 1, Free Time: swimming, relaxing, tour campus, etc. – Group 2
3:15pm-5pm – Groups Switch
5:30pm Dinner
6:30pm Evening Workout, stretching, doubles drills, doubles
8:30pm Evening activity, movies, bowling, billiards, swimming
10pm Evening Snack
10:30pm In Rooms

Cost/Tuition

Cost for one week at the Hoosier Tennis Camp is $770. Please note that our competitors charge more and go one less day. We are still a Sunday to Friday Camp

The resident fee included room and board, use of campus pool, all evening activities, FREE camp t-shirt. A $250 deposit is required with your application. You may register online now. Credit cards are accepted. We do offer a commuter rate of $600 for the 5 days of camp (9am-7:30pm)

Location

The woodland campus of Indiana University at Bloomington situated in the picturesque rolling hllls of Southern Indiana, is the site for the Hoosier Tennis Camp. Located one hour south of Indianapolis, Bloomington is easily accessible by highway, air, and bus

Transportation

Transportation to and from the tennis camp is the responsibility of the parents. If given at least one week’s notice the staff will pick up campers at the bus or shuttle stops. Go Express shuttle to and from Indianapolis airport runs every 2 hours.

Medical

A first aid responder will be in attendance throughout the week to care for minor injuries. IU Health Center services will be available to each camper on a fee for service basis. Parents must complete the consent form on the linked page with the application.

Swimming/Evening Activities

Campers will have the option of using IU’s Olympic-size outdoor pool in the afternoons. It is well supervised. We also have fun evening activities that include swimming/water slides at Bryan Park, a night at the local movie theater, bowling, and basketball in Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall

Supervision

Parents may be assured that all campers receive 24 hour supervision. We make every effort to provide a program where campers will have fun while learning. We reserve the right to send any camper home without a refund, if he or she does not conduct themselves in a manner that will enhance safe learning, good sportsmanship and a willingness to follow directions
